As it happens, here in Edmonton, where I live, an extreme heat warning
is in effect. However, the hot weather here is not nearly as bad as in
other regions of Canada, let alone the United States. Today's expected
high is 83 degrees Fahrenheit.

We're getting up into the 90s for the third day, although it may drop

Hit 114 here briefly on Saturday afternoon (it was 58 at daybreak, and
had dropped into the mid 60's by midnight).   Typical summer day.

Was 50F (10C) at daybreak today, expecting mid 90's by 1300.

With a couple of burbles, it only starting getting hot late last week.
Up to them we were basking (if that's the word) in the mid-70s at
best. With cloudy periods and some light rain.

There is a /reason/ the early settler's referred to the PNW as "God's
country". And it had a lot to do with the climate vs the rest of the
country.

For a while, it looked like it might be one of the years (rare, but
not too rare) where the hot stuff waits until August. That ship has
sailed. The /rare/ years are the ones where we look back in late
September and realize that, if Summer == hot sunny days, then our
Summer that year consisted of two days in mid May.

Now that the arrival of Summer is confirmed, we will see how long
September (defined as "things get cool, grey, and wet") lasts. Some
years it started the last week in August -- once it took until
mid-October! And that was before the really hot stuff of the past
decade or so.
