Along that similar vein, I belatedly just noticed while testing the two-tap
solution for the OP, when I switched from my FOSS default keyboard
(OpenBoard) to a similar FOSS keyboard (HeliBoard), that the HeliBoard
keyboard has a language switch key similar to what Andy suggests above.
