It was clear to me, from the beginning when WSL2 was introduced, that once
a Linux kernel was introduced into a Windows install, it was going to make
itself more and more indispensable, one way or another, until it
eventually took over completely.
 
This is I think another step on that road.

Windows fan boy websites have been quoting "MS insiders" for many months as
saying that the Windows 11 update coming later this year (that WAS going to
called Windows 12) is going to be a "major platform update, with every system
file replaced".

This makes me think that Windows is FINALLY going to be Unix (Linux) based. 
Remember, MS had their own version of Unix 40 years ago, called Xenix. It was
- at the time - the most used version of Unix on the planet thanks to the
Tandy (Radio Shack) Unix machines. Although Xenix is no doubt way too old to
be used today without MAJOR updates, plus getting it running on Intel and Arm
CPUs (Xenix was running on Motorola 68000 CPUs) would be a major challenge. 
But the point is, MS has a history with Unix.

Not to mention that every other computer on the planet now runs on some form
of Unix. Macs, iPads, iPhones and Apple watches are all running Unix. Android
is Linux. The internet runs on Linux. Unix runs on everything from mainframes
to watches. Linux servers dominate the PC server space, but there are a few
Windows servers for running reports and small, departmental use. Even MS cloud
service Azure is mostly Linux.

Windows is the last proprietary OS still being sold. That so-called "AI" needs
WSL installed for "AI" development was a huge step in this direction, and
possibly an indication of Things To Come.
