Just use the handy package manager GUI and ignore the noise. It will be
just like installing something on Windows that downloads the world.
I don't use it but apparently have it on the Ubuntu box.
gedit is already the newest version (41.0-3).
gedit set to manually installed.
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer
required:
