I don't think they will really do that, but it's telling that you'd be
OK with it in the abstract, even.
MS already runs non-dismissable (unless you pay) ads in Windows Casual Games, and I wouldn't put it past them to do it in other places in the future. Some people will switch to Mac and Linux, and a lot more will threaten to but won't actually do it.
I'm not OK with it. At all. It will/would piss me off immensely - as do the ads on TV and on the Internet and in Windows Casual Games - but what option do I have? Linux? ugh. I would give it a try, but it's not appetizing. And if I run Linux I can't in good conscience troll/flame Linux and Linux lusers in cola, which is my favorite online activity.
I'm not 'forced' to watch ads anywhere, of course, but it's part of the cost of consuming those forms of privately produced media and entertainment.
I've had to tell off a number of crappy websites that put ads all over the place: sometimes they're literally placed left right top and bottom of the screen, with [usually] lame content in the middle - and even the content was interspersed with ads. It's absurd.
I virtually never click on Internet ads, anyway.
Fuck Microsoft - and the advertisers - in their bitch ass, as you like to say.
