One of the few things I ever listened to on NPR was Ritchie's 'Thistle
and Shamrock'. The shamrock must have gotten lost in the switch.
Probably a copyright issue.
Perhaps but in that case they lost the wrong one. 'Thistle' implies the
Scots and their caterwauling bagpipes. The local 'Celtic Dragon' bagpipe
band tries to play Irish tunes every now and then. One octave plus one is
somewhat limiting. Irish flutes / tin whistles are good for three octaves
plus they have both C and C# so they can play in both D and G keys.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvpX1nTyEmcI can't say it's any more soothing but at least the Irish figured out how
to get a little more range.
