I see. None of my bicycles had a fixed length stem. The ones I have are all adjustable. Even the one I inherited from my elder brothers when I was 5 years old and learned riding with it, had an adjustable stem (a Phillips bicycle with that lion thing).
I'm no expert in these stuff, just in my experience never encountered a fixed stem type.
