What a pity it did such a horrible job of actually implementing the
concept. Those fancy “Aero Glass” effects could only work on higher-end
hardware. This led to the confusion over “Vista-capable” versus “Vista-
ready”, and there were even lawsuits by customers who felt they had been
had by Microsoft.
Meanwhile, my modest little Asus Eee 701, with the single-core 900MHz
Celeron, could run Kubuntu and KDE Plasma 4 with all those effects and
more, without missing a beat.
I'm not sure why they retired both.
Because Windows still cannot handle such advanced GUI features
efficiently.
