Microsoft saw everybody else had their own “app store”, so it figured it
needed to have one, too.

I'll admit that their implementation isn't the best. It was awful at first
and has gotten somewhat better, but it's still not the best way to get
software. For me, winget is where it's at (command-line, similar to apt).

For what it's worth, I might have been acquaintances with the guy behind
the team doing the Windows Store's design. If it is indeed Benson Chan who
is the director of user interfaces at Microsoft, this is a guy who used to
be friends with the girl I was with between 1999 and 2003. If I remember
correctly, he got the job there as a recommendation from my high school
buddy who was already working there, and who has since moved to Google. Of
course, there's a chance that there are thousands of directors of UX at
Microsoft, so who knows? I find that he cleaned it up quite well since its
beginnings.
