I haven't followed it over the years but the last time I remember the
Canadian dollar being at par was in the '60s. Back in the '90s I went to
Kelowna BC frequently so I'd exchange USDs at a bank. I was a treat
getting a wad of multicolored bills totaling about $130 USD for a
Frankiln.
I've been to Mexico when they were going crazy. I never exchanged money
but in a casual transaction the change from $1 US would weigh you down
with all sorts of coins. iirc the Peso was 20,000 to the dollar.
