No, just so I don't have to throw them away. I buy 2.5" USB 3.2 enclosures
for less than $5 shipped and just stick the 500 GB 2.5" hard drives in
those. Cheaper than buying a USB drive. I think 3.5" enclosures are a bit
more expensive, but it's still the same idea. (They may also last longer, I
don't know about that.)

I do pretty much the same thing. An old 500GB SSD I bought for my
previous laptop is now being used as an external drive containing all of
my ripped DVDs and Blu-Rays. Over here, the enclosures are $10 though.
