It's just a new coat of paint on the poppler/xpdf libraries.
First it's not using xpdf, it's using either mupdf or poppler.
Second, it's a little bit more than that. It's an interface. Its
purpose is to use libraries to display pdf documents. Nobody is using
libraries to read pdf documents: one need a reader for that and it's the
purpose of zathura.

Nobody wants to fool anybody. You are the only one able to fool yourself
displaying your lack of knowledge to everybody.
