Emacs... the anti-UNIX.

such as Cooledit, which is a text editor plus email client plus debugger
plus a lot of other things.

    I prefer to have separate tools, in general. These all-in-one IDEs tend to
handcuff one. And difficult to use over SSH, one needs something like Xpra.
