A base in integers completely sacrifices any fractional portions
thereof, and therein lies the need for floating point representation.

Except that those integers are already a fractionalization representation of color gradients across the three channels (RGB), so just what are you allegedly gaining by when adding even more decimal points which are going to be truncated off?
