But they ARE doing work.  They're creating new stuff that lack some
degree of compatibility with the old.  This is the problem, devs work on
what the want to work on, not what people need.

It's not a matter of what they *should* do, it's a matter of choosing
something different that better fits your needs. If Fedora jettisons X11,
I'll jettison Fedora. It's a matter of choice. With Linux you *can* choose
what you prefer (unlike Windows or Macs).
