Aside from the ridiculous highway billboards, which any advanced
society would summarily outlaw, I have not experienced an ad in
any form since I was 16 years old. (Before then I had no control.)
I _think_ they are illegal in UK anyway; certainly the term "highway
billboard" (or UK equivalent) isn't familiar to me, and if it means
billboards along the edges of highways in rural areas, then no, I've not
experienced them.>
I do, however, remember the following parody I encountered somewhere,
decades ago, which appealed to me:>
I think that I shall never see
a billboard lovely as a tree.
In fact, unless the billboards fall
I'll never see a tree at all.> (The original poem it was parodying had,
I think, "poem" instead of billboard in the second line - don't know how
it went on though. Googling "never see" will probably find it.)
