I hadn't been in the Barnes & Nbble store other than to buy a new calendar
in some time. They used to have several rows of programming books with a
decent selection. That's been cut down to one small section with about
eight shelves. Most of the titles are from Nostarch Press.
https://nostarch.com/Some of them aren't too bad but they're definitely not O'Reilly. The rest
look like they'd been carefully dusted for several years. I don't know if
it's this market or a general trend where print books are out of date
before the ink dries.
Ob Linux: The library has a maker space which had a Windows 10 computer. I
assume it was a cost saving choice but they put Zorin OS on it.
https://zorin.com/os/I wasn't aware of it until one of the volunteers posted a cry for help on
the local subreddit. I think they chose it because it looks like Windows
but he is finding out it isn't Windows. The specific problem was failing
to communicate with the Arduino Unos. I think it may be the /etc/udev/
rules.d stuff or possibly he isn't in the right group. For some reason if
Arduino installs a rule they use 'plugdev' rather than the more common
'dialout'.
I may drift in one of these days.
