The whole point of the current moon mission is only to beat the Chinese.
If the Chinese beat us then we lose prestige in the eyes of the world
and China will be perceived as the true dominant global power.
It was the same situation during the first "space race" but at that
time we were trying to beat the Soviets.

All that he's managed to accomplish is to create a returnable space
"pencil." Big deal.
NASA once had the Space Shuttle, which was a vastly superior design
with vastly superior capabilities. Somehow the will to keep the Space
Shuttle alive just vanished and, many years later, Musk stepped in to
fill the void with his laughable returnable "pencil."
If we brought back the Space Shuttle it would bury SpaceX and
that clown Elon Musk.
