Python rules/methods are just a disguise for
what the underlying 'C' is doing.
I think the libs can be found/read.
I’ve written some of those C extension libraries, and I can tell you the
string API is more sophisticated than you think.

Everything you can/want to do with strings ... it's
potentially complicated. Lots of ways to do it, it's
up to clever coders to find good/best ways.
