 Henbane has been mentioned too. Gruit made with henbane, marsh rosemary,

Henbane is one of many belladonna type compounds that mostly make people sleep and have vivid dreams of flying, copulating with animals, becoming animals etc etc. And leaves the eyes painful if exposed to sunlight.
Think vampires, witches, werewolves etc etc.
