True, I could get 20 glass reed switches for that, but then I'd have to
figure out a mount. The sets that are designed for doors and windows are
more expensive.
 

Adhesive tape would suffice and fix it in an instant, assuming that
the reed switch is placed inside the box.  But I agree: if you already
have the makings of a more interesting (not to say complex) solution,
go for it, just for shits and giggles.
