Hmmmmmm ... I tend to think I've led a very boring life, but, in
retrospect, I've done some VERY weird, edge, stuff without having any
of that double-alpha personality.
Some breeds of geek are just like that - our lead developer is a gangly,
soft-spoken motor-mouth of a guy, doesn't need any faux machismo to be
the kind of person who's almost killed himself in cliff-scaling
incidents multiple times, had more than one direct run-in with a bear,
and regularly treks up into the mountains in one busted-ass Jeep or
another for off-roading expeditions.
We occasionally have to remind him that he's not allowed to die before
the next ship date.
My boss tried to convince me to get a cell phone, knowing my penchant for
solo back country hikes without filing a flight plan. When I finally did
get one I found most of my favorite places didn't have coverage anyway.
I'd seen cell phone pullouts on highways that were designed for safety.
Some of the back roads had handmade pullout signs because that would be
the only place for miles where you might connect.
I carefully avoid cliff-scaling, but bears and cats are part of the
scenery here. I've had no problems with either.
