of them 'make flat', some 'make beads' or 'make coves' or
'make tongues' or 'make rabbets' (rebates for the UK crowd).

Plane originally meaning a flat chisel held in a self aligning jig, becomes any chisel held in a self aligning jig
Plane meaning flat surface in an aircraft, becomes a curved surface in an aircraft, before being supplanted by the term 'wing'.
In geometry plane still retains its originally meaning
