Why do people from Europe pay so much attention to American politics?
Surely there are issues closer to home you should be bitching and
moaning about. Are you secretly jealous of us?

Because your politics affects us. Our greatest ally has suddenly
decided to stop being an ally and that is huge for us. Instead Trump
has decided to bully your friends and decides to impose 20% tariffs on
imports from the UK because he thinks we levy 20% Value Added Tax (VAT)
on US imports. Actually VAT is a sales tax on all purchases, whatever
their origin, even items produced within the UK. I might have thought
that maybe Trump just doesn't know what VAT is, but you have sales taxes
at city, state and federal levels, so are you levying those taxes
unfairly on all your imports?

America has its own budgetary problems and has begun taking actions to
address that. Government employees are being reduced and spending is being
reduced across the board. We cannot keep pushing the deficit into higher
trillions as we have been doing. Trade deficits and foreign military costs
are big ticket items which must take the same cuts like the federal
government is taking. NATO countries have woken up to the fact that they
must take a bigger burden of defending their own territories than depending
on big brother all the time. Here’s an article from a left-leaning
publication which describes it better than I can.

If it's being "addressed"...
...if DOGE is really dealing with all the "waste"...
...why have the Republicans voted to lift the debt ceiling so much?
