witnessed the greatest technological change. Neither of my two
grandmothers, from the Midwest, ever learned to drive a car.

Yep, all four born in the 1880s or 1890s.  :-)
Nan frequently threatened to live long enough to see the return of Halley's Comet, alas, she didn't, so she wasn't disappointed.
