That is tantamount to condoning abortion at all stages of pregnancy.
What about the life of the unborn child?
OTOH we don’t even know for certain if Gallifreyan women do
get pregnant. What if they lay eggs instead?
If they laid eggs then they would have to incubate them. Where are the
incubators?
In the buildings of the Gallifreyan Maternity Service, under the
logo of the crossed computers (as mentioned in ‘The Creature
from the Pit’).
Is Romana Dejah Thoris? In any case, how would an egg come
out of a man? The problem still remains. Allowing a pregnant Time Lady
to regenerate into a man is tantamount to murder of the unborn child,
and that includes eggs.
I was specifically addressing your point that it was like allowing
abortion ‘at all stages of pregnancy.’
Eggs are laid at the earliest possible stage of pregnancy, before
the foetus has developed. Once laid they’re outside the mother’s
body and she can regenerate all she likes without having any
effect on the baby whatsoever.
Sorry if I didn’t make that clear enough before.
OTOH if you’re still mammal-centric enough to insist that Time
Ladies have placental pregnancies, then maybe the embryo isn’t
reabsorbed right away. While the newly-male mother is still
still within the first fifteen hours of their regeneration cycle, there’s
enough residual regeneration energy to allow another regeneration
back to female and continue the pregnancy as before.
(The regeneration cycle thing was established back in ‘The
Christmas Invasion’, so even you should accept it as canonical!)
