Yes...it is what is known as a "judgement call", and it is more
efficient for the individual to employ their own judgement regarding
the appropriateness of the posting behaviors of others, and if they
deserve to be filtered out.  If one misses a valid point by a
killfiled poster, that is a risk one does take, but if the sound-to-
noise ratio improves dramatically for the reader from the decision to
filter someone, then has the individual really lost anything?

Like I said, not everybody wants only that binary all-or-nothing choice
when it comes to all regular posters.  I'm not really sure what your
complaint here is, since we'd still be able to use kill files in both
the moderated and unmoderated groups.  The only difference is that one
group would be a total free-for-all like it is now, and the other one
would have community standards that are voted on and can be revised
democratically by the group's members.

It's obvious this topic has generated a lot of interest, based on how
many replies this thread has garnered in just a couple of days.
