I actually thought Missy was quite good... I much preferred her
take on the character than Anthony Ainley's Delgado rip-off

Ainley was infinitely superior. The Master was never a nihilistic
psychopath. The character is supposed to be based on 'Blackie' DuQuesne
from E E Smiths Skylark series, not Hannibal Lector.
 

What’s your source for that?  Every interview with Dicks or Letts
I’ve ever seen has said he was based on Professor Moriarty.  I don’t
remember them ever mentioning this Blackie bloke.
