Festive fun with the 15th Doctor...and plenty of schmaltz.

You must have watched something other than I.

A lot of the pre-episode hype featured Nicola Coughlan as Joy
but for me Anita was the better companion substitute. The scenes
with the Doctor and Anita were the real heart of this episode.

That was the only nice bit in the whole episode.

Talking of which, if the 15th Doctor had a year to hang-around
in London I would have expected him to pop-in to see Ruby whilst
he was there. Especially as Ruby actually had a cameo in the
episode! So I found that a bit odd.

Or visit the 14th Doctor!

Some people might not have liked the ending, some people might
not have even noticed the sub-text, or cared... but for a
Christmas Day episode something like that was to be expected,
especially once we knew the story was about a star. (Plus, the
"no wonder there was no room at the inn" line fore-shadowed
this.)

The ending was predictable from the moment the poor woman stood there
outside with the glowing chest.

Overall, stupid story, no joy, no happy end. Time Hotel dropping into
the universe out of nowhere makes no sense either.

Sub-text?

I must have missed any line about any inn.

Overall I'd rate "Joy to the World" 7/10.

2/10 for Anita.

Why don't they give this guy some proper Doctor Who stories? So far,
nothing really works out.
