You sure will... but the inhabitants of the Yadallee Republic
will still stream BBC1 from their local IPTV service, supplied
by Ahmed from the back of the Aladdin Kebab shop down the road,
anyway... so it won't matter who the BBC sell the international
streaming rights for "Doctor Who" to!

Time to end copyright protection altogether. Does a plumber charge you an annual royalty for having installed your central heating which you have to pay for the rest of his life and 70 years after he dies? Does the person who painted your walls demand you pay him a fee for every day you look at them?

Hmm!! Could that be the reason Plumbers and Painters charge soooo much?? They are getting their 'Lifetime' Fees up front. ;-P
That's a silly comparison since your local plumber didn't invent / create the central heating system, so has no copyright on it. The
I don't remember them demanding I obtain a license to use my boiler and radiators from the person that did in order to generate heat from them.

person / company that did invent it will have the appropriate patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and they will be be paid a fee whenever anyone buys it or any other compnay uses it in their devices. Similarly with the local painter.
But not every time I obtain heat from it.

Having said that, there are some systems where you do actually pay an on-going subscription to continue using such things, although that usually includes on-going maintenance and may or may not include upgrades to newer versions.

That's called breakdown cover. I don't see any record companies or movie studios replacing my cassettes which got mangled.

Copyright itself should be extended to cover the continual use. Winnie
Copyright should be life or 50 years from first publication whichever is longer. That's plenty of time for creators to make enough money from it. Everything after that should then fall into public domain. You don't keep paying your barber a recurring fee for when they cut your hair even after they're dead.

the Pooh (for example) should still be copyright for as long as the rights owners want to publish or sell books, etc. about the character.
No it should not. The creators of Winnie the Pooh already made their money from it. They should not receive a penny more just like the electrician who installed the cabling to my kitchen should not be paid every time I use the fridge, cooker, washing machine, or any other appliance in it.

Then we wouldn't have to suffer the moronic idiocy of things like the "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey" horror movie.
I'm still waiting for the movie where Felix the Cat chases Mickey Mouse, catches him, snaps his neck, tears him to pieces, drops him and my feet, and regrets that he can't play with him any more since he's finally realizes that he's killed him and he can't come back to life.
