As often happens, the fan-made film "Doctor Who: The Ginger Chronicles - A Dame to Kill" was one of the first Doctor Who "episodes" to have a female playing teh role of the Doctor. I haven't watched it since I have an aversion to both fan-films and gender-swapped characters, but it was supposedly a "semi-pro fan-film", so may well be a bit better quality than the average fan-made rubbish.
Doctor Who: The Ginger Chronicles E01 "A Dame to Kill" (2014)
------------------------------------------------------
When the TARDIS crash lands, The Doctor is severely injured,
and forced to regenerate. At long last, The Doctor becomes a
ginger. But there's a catch...The Doctor is now a female!
But she does not have time to recuperate for long, as an old
enemy re-emerges, forcing her into a life or death struggle,
with the fate of the universe in the balance!

It was apparently meant to be the first of a series, but the following episodes never got enough crowd-source funding ... I wonder why that was?? :-p
