None of the Tom Bakers are missing . The missing episodes
are from the first 3 doctors of the 60's, and were caused
by the practice at the time of after the broadcast the
tapes they were recorded on were reused for other shows to
save money. So the original recordings were lost.
by the 1980s all Pertwee was recovered.
Yes and many thanks to Canadian broadcasting corporation
for keeping a lot of those on hand so we can see them
today.
Off the top of my head I'm not sure it was CBC but there were
Third Doctor episodes found in Canada alright... the copies
found were black and white too, meaning they had to be
converted to colour once the BBC had them back. So we also
owe a debt of thanks to the people who restored those
episodes to their original - or as near as - condition too.
Some of those re-colorised Pertwee episodes look rough on the
DVD discs - you would know they had been converted from copies.
They look even rougher on the "Doctor Who Collection" Blu-Ray's!
Blu-Ray is a great format for having a whole season of "Doctor
Who" on one release, with all the extras, commentaries,
galleries and stuff... but not so great for viewing old TV shows
from the 1970's. The Blu-Ray's (coupled with our modern large
screen TV's) just magnify the poor picture quality.
