The child's abduction was specifically shown in the episode it was in. Taking a and abandoned child from where you found it to your home instead of a police station or social services or alerting the police and social services is abduction. A child is not a stray cat or dog that wanders into your garden looking for food.

The child did try to run away. It fell off a cliff. After that it was restrained in a bed.
