Another good Usenet newsgroups portal is JLA Forums:

I just wish they would fix their line wrap in quoting, which sometimes
produces broken quote lines, and that they would produce proper
references headers so that threading worked properly for those using a
newsreader.

Usually, everything shows as a reply to the first article in the thread,
not the actual article being replied to, so no threading in newsreaders.

Hopefully some of these technical issues have been resolved, Retro Guy.
As far as I can tell with my limited knowledge of such matters it seems
improvements have been made.

When you post from there, I'm not seeing a difference. From this thread,
note the line wrapping is a mess:

I can say that in the past couple of weeks JLA Forums has vastly
improved.

I can take a look at the other issues (dates, etc.), but I'm not sure
anything has changed. The formatting is by far the worst part of it. It
makes a mess of quoting. The References: header in that message has only
one reference, so threading will be incorrect.

Yes, I'm seeing the line wrapping is happening.

I'm not sure how the JLA Forums moderator can solve this, but perhaps
you could offer some tips here, Retro Guy?

They would need to modify the code of their site to fix this. Since
their software does not seem to support Usenet articles properly,
someone would need to rewrite the code to do do so.
>
Their site uses 'newsSync' to send the articles to giganews, but it does
not change the formatting, it just sends a badly formatted article to
Usenet, including missing References headers.
>
Their software is just simply not meant for Usenet, unless they fix it.
It appears to just be web forum software pretending that Usenet articles
are part of their site. As long as a user stays there, it's all good,
but the articles that get sent out do not conform to the network they
are being sent to (Usenet).

This is a problem Google Groups apparently didn't have, right?

I don't think this was a problem with the Google Groups version of
Usenet?

Google Groups had some formatting issues, but not anywhere near as bad
as jlaforum. You usually didn't notice it.
>
Of course GG was made for Usenet (I assume), and Google can pretty much
code whatever they want to code. Their interface did work, and the
articles were mostly Usenet compliant.

Before I started novaBBS, I tried to modify a web forum software for
Usenet use (FudForum) but very quickly realized that it was a bad idea.
I got it working fine, but the articles sent were not well formatted,
and incoming articles were not handled well. I gave up pretty quickly
and decided to just write my own. I actually forked an old, out of date
and didn't work anymore piece of software and modified it, heavily.

I'm not an expert, but I feel like Nova BBS does a pretty good job.

Thank you. I think the whole idea is to at least try. novaBBS has bugs,
and when someone points one out, and can demonstrate how to duplicate
it, I try to fix it. Try is the main word here, I may fail :) In fact,
novaBBS used to have the same quoting issue as jlaforum, until a user
did some testing and showed me exactly when it would happen. Then, I
fixed it, after several attempts and with the user providing feedback
along the way.

When jlaform reached out to me about novaBBS removing advertising
injected into posts, we discussed it, and I temporarily removed that
filter (it's back now). But when I mentioned to the person at jla the
issuses we have discussed above, then completely ignore every word I
said about it. (S)He only seemed to care about making sure their
advertising gets through. Nothing more.

You can't fix something if you don't seem to have any interest in doing
so.

I understand, there seems to be a definite communication gap here
between you at Nova BBS and the moderator at JLA Forums.

Hopefully you can get these problems worked out in the coming days.

I passed along this post to the admin last week and they said they are
working
on making corrections.
Again, posts about me are appearing on rec.srts.poens but not my actual
poetry posts themselves:

This is a response to the post seen at:
