JRRT's last ringbearer was ... Sam Gamgee.
 
And /somewhere/ in the books I have of JRRT's output, he tells us what
happened to him. Perhaps in an Appendix in LOTR; perhaps elsewhere.

It is the third to last entry in the Tale of Years (Appendix B).
