Books are rated using a very primitive rating system:
“+” are good, and more “+” are better
“-” are not good, and more “-” are worse
snip
( + - - - ) Rogue Star - Pohl & Williamson [Starchild Trilogy #3]
AND
( + - ) Starchild - Pohl & Williamson [Starchild Trilogy #2]
I am now pleased that I stopped after book 1. I have more often than not
been disappointed with reading or rereading such ancient stuff which
would have been great in its time.

Yeah, this is yet another time where my non-standard intro to sff means I missed something as a teen that did not work for me as a non-teen. I do believe I would have liked this way back when.
<shrug> It happens.
But not very often.
