Her entire school had a Cultural Diversity Day and all students were
told to wear something celebrating her own culture instead of the usual
school uniforms so she wore a dress that was essentially a British flag.
She was an A student but found herself punished for her choice of
clothing - along with other students - and her parents were called to
pick her up early.

Her parents were not at all happy and her community was very agitated as
well. The school gave an after-the-fact "apology" where they promised to
reconsider how the event was run the next year. I'll believe that when I
see it!
Oh, I'm sure they are truly reconsidering how the event will be run in the
future. This time around, the flyer with the instructions for the event said
to come dressed in a manner expressing your nationality or family heritage,
and didn't exclude white native-born British nationality and heritage.
After reconsideration, I'm sure they'll conclude that where they went wrong
was not making it clear from the start that the event doesn't include white
people and/or British history or culture. Next year's flyer will be sure to
make that explicit, with instructions to the white kids to just wear their
normal school uniforms while everyone else dresses up.
