It is that time of year to discuss the start of Daylight Saving Time.
It's not "Savings".
And it's sure not energy savings either, especially with the entire
globe warming up. They can't wait for the sun to go down in Arizona.

Hawaii remains on standard time year round. This makes sense given how
close they are to the equator.
And how far away they are from the mainland.

Dependencies American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Northern Marina
Islands, the US Minor Outlying Islands, and the US Virgin Islands do not
observe Daylight Saving Time.
That brings us to the wackiness that is Arizona. Arizona observes
Standard Time year round but does not control commerce in the Indian
reservations. The multi-state Navajo Nation observes Daylight Saving
Time, but the Hopi reservation, entirely surrounded by the Navajo
Nation, does not observe Daylight Saving Time. There are alternating
bits of land in which tribal jurisdiction changes, for much confusion.
Far as I'm concerned Standard Time should be observed all year long,
everywhere. Things seem to be going in the wrong direction.
Yep, Dumbass Stupid Time needs to be abolished worlwide. It's a relic of the past and wasn't even wanted nor useful then either. Just the usual idiot politician who came up with an inane idea and forced it on everyone else.  :-\
Then let's put it to a vote!  Every year I suggest this, and every year the Standard Time Lovers reject the idea.
Why is that?  I mean if it's so useless and unpopular, there shouldn't be an issue leaving it up to voters, right?
This is the same shit over and over and over: "We yearn for the good old days when there was no "Savings Time" and women were barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen and frozen embryos were people."  Sure, that shit makes a ton of sense.
Savings time has been around for as long as I remember and I'm old. They did lengthen it several years ago and now you have kids trick or treating while the sun is still up.
Daylight Saving Time was first used in Canada in 1908, but the idea has been around since at least the 1700s - Benjamin Franklin personally used to wake up earlier to give him more daylight hours and use less candles. No doubt some people personally used to get up early long before he did it.
There have been a few reasons put forward as to why it was established and why it should be used, but none of them ever really make sense or have any proof that they work. If altering the clocks to fit daylight hours actually made sense, then countries in the far north with near 24 hours of day or night at certain times of the year, would dispense with half the clock (24 hours of daylight, so we get rid of nighttime and everyone has to stay awake. 24 hours of darkness, so we get rid of the daytime and everyone has to stay alseep.)
Realistically, countries (or even regions of countries) changing their clocks are various times of the year simply makes a mockery of the international timezones. The best option would be to simply change the clocks worldwide by 30mins and then completely get rid of idiotic Daylight Saving Time.
