The Holdovers star DaVine Randolph had nothing but praise for God
during her acceptance speech on Sunday at the 96th Academy Awards.

During the Oscars awards show at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, the
37-year-old actress got emotional before she took the stage to accept
the award for Best Supporting Actress, her first ever Oscar and first
nomination.

God is good. God is so good, Randolph told the room of Hollywood
stars. God is so good.

Randolph then told the story of how she was never supposed to be part
of Hollywood and how it was her mother who gave her the encouragement
to try something different.

You know, I didnt think I was supposed to be doing this as a career,
the actress explained. I started off as a singer, and my mother said
to me, go across that street to that theater department, theres
something for you there. And I thank my mother for doing that.

Thank you to all the people who have stepped in my path and has been
there for me, she added. And who has ushered me and guided me. I am
so grateful to all you beautiful people out here.

For so long, I have always wanted to be different, Randolph
continued. And now Ive realized I just need to be myself. And I thank
you for seeing me.

She then closed out her speech by thanking her publicist and said she
prays to God she gets to do this more than once.

In The Holdovers, Randolph played Mary Lamb, the grieving mother of a
son who was killed while serving his country, who works as a cook in a
prep school. She ends up spending the Christmas vacation with a
troubled student, played by Dominic Sessa, and a history teacher,
played by Paul Giamatti.

A description about the movie reads, A cranky history teacher at a
prep school is forced to remain on campus over the holidays with a
grieving cook and a troubled student who has no place to go.

Randolphs breakout role has been huge for her. She previously took
home a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice Award, BAFTA, and SAG Award for
her performance in the movie, CNN noted.

The Holdovers is nominated for a total of five Oscars at Sundays
show, which includes Best Picture and a Best Actor nod for Giamatti,
CNN noted.
