We have it a little different here in L.A. The cops are still firmly on
the side of the public but they're prohibited from enforcing most of the
penal code by the politicians. And if they buck the system and make
arrests anyway, it doesn't do any good because the D.A. refuses to
prosecute, and if by some miracle your criminal gets arrested, charged,
and convicted, and sentenced, the state will come around in short order
and let him out of prison after barely serving 1/5 of his sentence.

So you are living in a Dirty Harry movie, without Lalo Schifrin's music.

We had that two days ago. Man killed a woman's son, and almost killed
her. She was very seriously injured, and pregnant. I don't know if
she'll pull through.

He was paroled out of prison just the day before. He's been and out of
prison on a variety of domestic batteries.

The more details that come out, the sadder it is.

The man was this woman's former boyfriend... 15 years ago. He's been in
and out of prison for years, generally for beating up women who try to
leave him. She had protective orders out against him. When put on
parole last October, he was ordered not to contact her. But he sent
a threatening text message January 30, threatened to kill her January
31, showed up February 1. She filed another petition for an emergency
order of protection for these incidents but they were dismissed the
morning he attacked her; I don't know why.

She also contacted the parole board, which had him sent back to prison.
But he was released on Tuesday March 12. The victim received an
automated alert. I wish she had left town. On Wednesday March 13, he
showed up at the apartment again, forced his way in as she was leaving.
As she was being attacked, her 11 year old son tried to intervene but
was killed. A five year old child was also injured. She was badly
injured. I still haven't heard if she lost her baby.

No one knows why he was released again from prison despite violating
probation. They are looking in to it.
