Magic (TCM) 1978 movie starring Anthony Hopkins as a magician /
ventriloquist who lets his dummy talk him into killing people. I'm
pretty sure I never saw this before now, although I'm also pretty sure I
remember previously watching the scene where Hopkins manager (Burgess
Meredith) sees if he can keep the dummy silent for 5 minutes and Hopkins
fails miserably.

I saw this in theater as a kid. There were a number of similar movies
about ventriloquist dummies in that era in movies and literature (I read
the novel as well), an old horror trope that had gotten revived.
