AI is about to wipe out a huge number of jobs worldwide. Should we allow
that to happen?

Years ago, Jack-in-the-Box started outsourcing the drive-through voice to
India. I have no idea how they possibly thought this would save money. It
was a spectacular failure.
How would that even work? The phone bills would be astronomical!
It's hard to imagine it being cheaper than to hire somebody for minimum
wage that doesn't or only barely speaks English, which is what Wendy's and
especially panda express drive-thrus do here. I continue to be puzzled as
to why Wendy's and Walgreens puts the person with the worst English at the
drive-through.
Even if you go inside Panda Express, you can only order by pointing at the
food.

There used to be a Kenny Rogers roasters next to my office and the food was
really good but the people that worked inside had absolutely zero English.
They put the menus under glass on the countertop and you ordered by
pointing.

Unfortunately, they ran out of room and they put the ribs on the menu up
above their heads that you couldn't actually order from. So I never ever
ever was able to have the ribs.
