You're kidding, right? The parties realigned in the election of Reagan.
Significant parts of the Democratic coalition went over to the
Republican party to vote for Reagan. Large portions of the labor
movement no longer voted Democratic, like Teamsters.

No actually I wasn't - I wasn't talking electorally - I was talking
with respect to society generally and where it was going.

What else would the party its members care about? A large part of the
electorate became Republican. That was quite a dark time for the
remaining Democrats.

I was thinking about BLM and George Floyd - not "how many Democrats
can we get elected" but "this country is now more divided any time
since Viet Nam in the LBJ/Nixon era"

Cynically, certain Democratic politicians thought that not making sure
that basic law enforcement was being performed versus criminals who took
advantage of George Floyd protestors to loot and commit vandalism and
arson thought they were playing to their own base of voters and
solidifying support. They didn't care about division but what they
perceived as personal political advantage to them.

Plenty of other Democrats were horrified at the societal breakdown.

Twenty years ago, who would have thought that by 2024 the following
statements would be politically explosive:

"Violent criminals should be arrested and sent to prison."

and

"Men cannot give birth."

Didn't you hear yesterday's advice on screening mammograms for trans men
starting at age 40?

Earlier in the week, I heard one woman doctor being interviewed about
some concern with pregnancies. Twice, she said "pregnant...
individuals". It was awkward, pregnant pause and all, as if she were
forcing herself to use trans-speak.

But a few days ago, I happened to catch an older video of testimony
given by a teammate of Lia Thomas at UPenn and what she and the other
women went through. She wasn't a top swimmer like Riley Gaines so you
wouldn't have heard of her but her experiences appeared to be worse than
Riley Gaines' were.

This crap infuriates me.
