Agreed, which is perplexing. I think the writers of Law & Order think the
jury got it wrong.

When you strip away all the mitigating factors and the bleeding heart
aspects, the guy shot the other guy, lied about it, tried to conceal the
weapon and swept his vulnerable daughter into the plot. Guilty!

Well, yeah, he was guilty due to the twist. The writers lacked the
courage of their convictions. They might have chosen to write a decent
script instead exploring the legal ramifications of "castle doctrine"
and to whom it applies. But they went another way.

Instead we got to explore whether the fact that rents have more than
doubled is an affirmative defense to a murder charge, and with the
twist, the script wouldn't even stick with that.
