soaps: DOOL - It feels like everyone, except NuTheresa, is going to throw in the towel on Holly/Tate, and even NuTheresa might give up now that dummy Alex has proposed to her. Alex buries the hatchet with Maggie. They write out Harris in the least convincing way possible (but can bring him back later, should the actor ever return to DOOL) - I wonder what they do now to keep Ava in town?...
GH - Tracy lays down some Truth!! on Finn. Chase and Brook Lynn consult Diane for options on Violet re: Finn. Kristina and Blaze have dinner with Sonny and Booby Vista - later, Ava tries to crash, but NuKristina lays Ava out for getting Alexis disbarred and gets Ava to slink away. NuNuNuMolly and TJ bury the hatchet, and Molly shares her concerns that Kristina will renege on giving up the baby after the surrogacy is over. Spinelli tries to talk awful Carly off the proverbial ledge.
Run, Hide, Die (aka. The Anniversary) (Tubi) - Great title, pretty lousy execution. (This 2012 flick has a whopping 2.9/10 on IMDb, though with less the 300 votes so likely not enough to be valid...)
This flick was so low-budget that they couldn't even show the stabbings/slashings directly! (because presumably they didn't have the EFX to pull it off!).
The film also takes way, way too long to get going.
It stars Alison Monda, who also wrote it, in what turns out to be her last role in the business. She plays a young widow who, on the one year anniversary of her husband's death (the details of which are not revealed until later) takes up an offer to go to a remote cabin for relaxation, and takes along 4 other gal-pals.
Of course, this offer is a set-up for revenge! REVENGE!!
But it takes way too long to get there, and once it does it's so low-budget that it can't fully deliver. During the climax, there is one welcome development/"twist" that almost makes this worthwhile.
But even this segment relies way too much on the usual "idiot plotting" of horror movies - to wit: if some psycho is trying to kill you, you *make sure* to kill them once and for all when you get the chance...
And, of course, they get too cute with the ending too.
Probably not worth the time of anyone who's not a hard, *hard*-core low-budget horror film aficionado.
Hopefully, someone else will take this title and do something a lot better with it.
The Canyon (Tubi) - 2009 flick starring Yvonne Stra-hotski, and Eion Bailey (with special appearance from Will Patton!).
I actually am pretty sure I've seen this flick, or at least part of it, before.
Stra-hotski and Bailey play newlyweds - he wants to take her on a mule ride tour of the Grand Canyon for the honeymoon. But he didn't book in advance, so he's screwed! Until old salt guide Will Patton shows up, and offers to take them (likely on the D.L.!).
Of course, you know this is going to end in disaster, and it does when Patton is bitten by rattlesnakes and the mules run off.
So they're far away from civilization, get lost, make horrible and dumb mistakes, and are menaced by wolves most of the time.
The ending is straight out of "The Mist" (which predates this film by two years), which I wasn't really expecting. In fact, I would have liked a more definitive ending, period.
This apparently was poorly received critically, but sports a 5.8/1000 on IMDb which generally indicates a pretty solidly entertaining film.
This would have been a lot better if it were based on some true story though...
