Not nice enough that he wasn't out shooting bears for no reason. I don't
have a problem with hunting for food, but hunting for fun when the result
is a bear dying for their amusement is repulsive.

 
They would have eaten the bear (and presumably still did).

I've never heard of people hunting bear for meat. Every time I've seen bear
hunters it's a trophy hunt. If they were indeed hunting for meat, then I
retract my comment.
