'The Spy Who Loved Me'. Did you know that Roger Moore was Eon's first
choice for Bond back before 'Dr. No'? But he was unavailable until
'Live and Let Die'.
Roger Moore always denied that he was considered for Dr. No, although he
was good friends with Albert R. Broccoli. Broccoli, the fucking
hypocrite, didn't want "that tv actor" Pierce Brosnan to play Bond
later, even though Moore was hired specifically given his familiarity as
The Saint to worldwide television audiences.
The Spy Who Loved Me is am original screenplay. Fleming thought his
novel, a revenge fantasy told from the perspective of the female victim
in which Bond doesn't show up till the last few chapters, didn't work
and refused to sell adaptation rights to the story.
I think this movie is terrifically entertaining, except for Marvin
Hamlisch's weak score and the unfortunate dubbing of Barbara Bach. For
some reason, I got it in my head as a kid that she was Daisy Duke's
sister.
That opening ski jump is one of the great stunts in movie history.
