No, you can't defend Trump's new policies. They just showed up at a
Chicago elementary school, so clearly there is no prioritization for
booting out criminals.

If Trump had wanted to make a point about lack of state and local
cooperation, they had days to obtain federal arrest warrants for their
high priority list of dangerous men to deport. That forces local
cooperation.
Trump is making a mockery of all this.
Whatever mockery there is, it pales in comparison to the mockery and outright
lawlessness we've been under for the last four years with Biden and Kammie.
