It was an Apple offering, not Netflix.
As I said in my rec.arts.tv WDYW? thread review, if Netflix has done this, it would have been utter crap (and likely would have had different leads).
But because Apple did it, it was actually surprisingly decent.
(and I'm crediting the
director, Scott Derrickson, for that). Fwiw, the fact that it ticks a
half-dozen genre-boxes, while living in none, is part of its charm.
