I was a school bus driver so long ago, the seats weren't padded on the
back and they weren't high enough to provide a headrest. Both of those
requirements are to help mitigate against head and neck injuries if the
driver slams the vehicle into a fixed object.

We were taught to go easy on the brakes and to leave plenty of room
ahead.
